Genesis 1: 1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Herein is the major revelation: In the beginning, God created. Until we get that part down straight, we will still feel like we are looking for the explanation, when it is already there, an unavoidable- and perfectly clear- truth. In the beginning, God created. Job 12: 7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: 8: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. 9: Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? If any of us seriously look around, we can see that we are more than electrical impulses and chemical elements. Otherwise, where does love come from?? (or depression) We are each a living soul, created by God. But, that is a topic for another day, and another page. Our question for today: Is the Earth really millions of years old? I mean, we have all heard about carbon dating, and then, of course, there are all those layers to the Earth's crust that had to take eons to form, and what about the Grand Canyon? That had to take forever to form, didn't it? Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2: And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3: And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4: And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5: And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. That's where it starts. But it doesn't stop there. The book clearly lays out Creation. The Bible is Literal. We must allow God to show us that. II Peter 1: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21: For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. And, yes, God knows how long a day is. I would even call Him the Utmost Authority, since He invented them. From Genesis on, we find- if we seek diligently- Creation laid out before us. I have heard Christians say "I've never seen anything about how old the Earth is in the Bible." Well, that will only happen for two reasons:
1) You did not read it;
or 2) You got to the point where it said "And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech..." and you said "Whoa! That's too much information for me!" (C'mon... you know you did.) But, if we will look at the whole book seriously, we find that God did not put anything in His Word just to be a space filler. Every verse has so much revelation available, as soon as we decide we are interested. I will be creating a Genealogy soon, but today we are dating Creation. It should be noted that this is not a Timeline, per se; I am not attempting to include any events unnecessary to the task at hand. This two page study is simply an index of where you can find the verses that piece together how much time we have gone through so far. Clicking on the chapter name at the beginning of any quotation will open up that chapter in your browser. This allows you to put all quotes in context. Let it never be thought that I am attempting to use the Bible to prove my own beliefs. You are encouraged to flip through your own Bible, and see for yourself... I have tried to keep the amount of reading to a minimum here. I have included only the parts of verses that seemed necessary to tie things together coherently. There is enough here that you will have to make a decision, if you read on... I Thessalonians 5: 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. After you read this, the only question left will be: "Who are you going to believe- your secular history or science professor, or God?" Read the Study
